Your Pet Feels More Than You Think: Understanding the Invisible Bond

Learn the surprising ways your pet helps balance your energy and emotions.

There is nothing in the world like the unconditional love of a pet. The raw emotion and feeling these precious beings offer our souls is nothing short of divine. These teachers are here to guide and support us on our path, offering honesty, integrity, and care.

And let’s get real. Most of us have been triggered or upset with our pets at one point or another—equally, they have with us. They usually allow themselves an authentic reaction, process the energy, and move on. They have communicated what they need to; hopefully, their human got the point, and they are back to cuddles and snuggles fairly quickly—at least most of the time.

Animals and pets are masters at reading energy. They have an innate ability to understand the flow and frequency without judgment, to sense blocks or lower vibrations, quickly discern them, and act accordingly. For example, have you ever been out walking your dog, and for no apparent reason, they have an uncharacteristic reaction to someone who passes by? Instinctively, they can read the energy and may either go into a protective stance or be drawn to that person for some reason.

Similar to humans, animals possess subtle body energy fields—Qi and life force energy, chakras, meridians, acupuncture vortices, and auras. Most have a different spectrum of sight, and they often see things that we cannot. How many times have you been in a room with a cat, and they seem to be having an entire conversation or playdate with an invisible friend?

Pet moms and dads may also receive support from their furbaby when processing life’s woes. If we accept that our biofields—or energetic bodies—process energy before our physical bodies, we can begin to work with these energy centers and subtle layers to support not only greater happiness and emotional well-being, but also improved physical health.

Physical disease can result from a biofield that’s out of balance. Energy healers and therapists work with the chakra system, meridians, and the entire biofield to clear energy blocks and restore balance, allowing the body to realign to its natural state of health.

When we are deeply bonded with a pet, they may take on the responsibility of processing our energy for us. Unfortunately, if that energy isn’t able to be cleared effectively, it could lead them to express health or behavioral challenges. That’s unconditional pet love—doing all they can to ease their human’s stress and make us happy!

Equally, when we are experiencing balance—with heaping helpings of gratitude, joy, and peace—our pet is typically also in a state of happiness and contentment. They’ll still be working to process energy for you, but in a healthy, balanced way. Have you ever had a pet that suddenly ran around the house in joy, chased something invisible, or just had a “funny few minutes”? These “zoomies” are a way to clear the environment of incongruent energy and restore balance to the room!

You may be thinking, “I’m not familiar with the complexities of the biofield and don’t know anything about energy work—what can I do to help right now?”

I’m so glad you asked! If you’re new to the concept of energy—for both people and pets—the best thing you can do in this moment is observe, notice, feel, and release.

Observe what is happening with them without judgment—of them or of yourself. This can be challenging if they’re displaying behaviors that trigger your anger or frustration—like relieving themselves in the house or getting into something that could injure them. Staying neutral in your observation helps shift the energy.

Notice these reactions and any sensations you may be feeling in your body. Do you feel tingling, cold, heat? Where in your body do you feel it? Is there an associated emotion? If you feel uncomfortable, step into silence and ask what you may need to know. Take note of the first thing that comes to you—or any shift in your body sensations.

Release anything that doesn’t feel good in your body—whether it’s a physical sensation or a deep emotion that has surfaced. Give thanks with gratitude for the messages you’re receiving, and let them go.

These steps are a great way to start noticing the energy around you—and how it may be affecting your pet!

If you feel you need additional support, seek out an energy healer with whom you feel in resonance.

A good energy healer or therapist can identify energetic cords or ties between a pet and their person that may be contributing to challenges. They’ll help the owner understand the connection, offer therapy to support resolution, and provide in-home practices to encourage continued healing and emotional well-being.

Remember to ask as many questions as you need about the services and process. Ask yourself if they’re providing value and honoring both your journey and your pet’s. Ultimately, you’ll know if a practitioner is in resonance, feels good to you, and is empowering both you and your pet. If you have any hesitation, explore other options and see if they feel better. In the end, being open to the process and feeling comfortable with the practitioner will be the key to success for both you and your pet.

Be open and curious about the possibilities. Remember, healing your pet heals you.
